Butterflies Shouldn't Wear Shoes

butterfliesnoshoes.jpg

If butterflies taste with their feet, then they certainly should never wear shoes! Fascinated, that's  what second-grade student, Erik Uebelacker decided after his teacher taught a lesson on butterflies at school. He found the idea very humorous and decided to share it with others by writing a picture book about it...Butterflies Shouldn't Wear Shoes.

It took Erik 10 minutes to write the 28-page book and about a month to do the colorful illustrations. After Erik completed the book, he decided to sell it and donate the proceeds to a wildlife charity. He and his mom, Carla Mattioli, researched extensively and selected the World Wildlife Fund to receive the proceeds from the sale of each ten dollar book.

Erik hand-delivered his first donation--a $2000 check--to the Washington-based organization. His gesture was cheered by the World Wildlife Fund staff and received lots of attention from newspapers and television stations.

The Baltimore Sun in Maryland published an article about Erik's book and his visit and Erik appeared on NBC, ABC, Fox News, and CNN!

Erik continues to sell his book at www.butterfliesshouldntwearshoes.com. He enjoys writing books and helping animals and is thinking about other things animals shouldn't do!

Perhaps you can have an idea about something an animal shouldn't do?
